JRMA FAMILY MARTIAL ARTS HISTORY

Mr. Rowan started practicing Tae Kwon Do in 1997/1998. He quickly excelled in the discipline and became his school's Program Director and one of their favorite instructors, (all BEFORE achieving Black Belt). Mr. Rowan achieved 1st degree Black Belt in the spring of 2003 and has received his 5th Dan.

In 2005 Mr. Rowan struck out on his own and started the JR Karate Kids program. A unique and innovative program teaching preschoolers the basics of taekwondo and all the wonderful benefits that come with it....and he took the class to the preschools. In March of 2012 Mr. Rowan brought Mrs. Allison on board to help with the program. Seeing that his students needed someplace to go after graduating preschool, Mr. Rowan opened JRMA Family Martial Arts in the fall of 2012 with the emphasis on the word FAMILY. Starting out renting spaces in field houses, gyms and parks and recreations, JRMA Family Martial Arts finally found a dojo to call home in 2014 with our students ranging in ages of 3 to (so far) 68.

Unfortunately, in 2020 COVID 19 hit and in-person classes came to a screeching halt. But that did not dampen the JRMA spirit…PERSEVERANCE ruled the day. In March of 2020 we began to offer ZOOM classes, workout videos on our Facebook page and then a YouTube channel. In addition, we held outdoor classes when the weather and season permitted (fondly dubbed the “Cojo”), all to help our students stay fit and to help them keep practicing martial arts safely.

In June of 2021 we were finally able to open our new Dojo located on 7 Highway in Blue Springs. We are so thankful for the students that stuck with us through COVID and so excited to see new faces join our martial arts family each month. In September of 2021 we added a class specifically for our Karate Kids (ages 3-6) and Mighty Ninjas (ages 6-10) and in January 2022 were excited to welcome a certified yoga instructor into our JRMA family which enabled us to have yoga classes every Monday evening. In an effort to give our students the best that we can give we are still utilizing Facebook and Instagram to keep them in the loop of what is happening each week at JRMA, we are adding new video content to our YouTube channel , and updating our Web Page. We are very excited about all we are able to offer our students.

The school is run with these tenets in the forefront of Mr. and Mrs. Rowans’ minds: Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance, and Indomitable Spirit.
